"Waverley Singers raring to go after a long hiatus"

The Waverley Singers have started the 2021-22 season with a flourish, and have a really exciting musical programme ahead. It's not too late to join as a singer, a patron or audience member.

The choir's first proper concert since the beginning of the pandemic took place at St Andrew’s church Farnham on October 9. The atmosphere was joyful, as for some people this was their first live music event in 18 months.

Soprano Daisy Walford and organist Philip Scriven were both on excellent form. Perhaps the highlight of the choir’s programme was John Rutter's beautiful Requiem accompanied by members of the Chameleon Arts Chamber Ensemble. As ever the concert was expressively directed with great attention to detail by Richard Pearce.

The Waverley Singers will be presenting their traditional Christmas concert, Carols by Candlelight, at St Lawrence Church, Alton, on Saturday, December 4. Socially distanced seating will be available, but early booking is highly recommended as tickets sold out for this event in 2019.

On January 15 the Waverley Singers will be holding a workshop on Mozart's wonderful Mass in C minor at South Farnham School, ahead of a performance with full orchestra at the Farnham Maltings on April 4. The workshop is open to members of other choirs, and those who do not currently sing in a choir.

Looking further ahead, the choir will be performing one of the greatest choral works ever written, Bach’s Mass in B minor, on June 18 at St Andrew’s Garrison Church, Aldershot. This reinstates the performance which had to be cancelled in March 2020.

Finally in July, choir members will have the opportunity to join sister choir the Romsey Choral Society to perform Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at Romsey Abbey.
