"Singers amazed at response"

The Waverley Singers put on a ‘Come and Sing’ Mozart Requiem at Saint Andrew's Church in Farnham, and were amazed at the response.

Among the 150 visiting singers who took up the invitation on Saturday, February 9, were groups from about five choral societies from the surrounding area, some of whom are putting on their own performances of the Mozart Requiem in the coming months.

Together with about 70 Waverley Singers, this means a total of well over 200 performers, plus four visiting soloists from the Royal Academy of Music. Philip Scriven was on the organ, with the whole performance controlled and inspired by conductor Richard Pearce.

Despite the mass of singers, there was still room to squeeze in some 100 listeners.

The next Waverley Singers concert on March 16 will be a major one in Saint Andrew’s Garrison Church in Queens Avenue, Aldershot, the programme to include Beethoven's Mass in C, Mozart's Symphony No 40 and a soprano solo - Exultate Jubilate.
