Waverley Singers

The first reviewer of this concert and the sub-editor both got a bit carried away, we think.

The sub-editor's caption to the main photo, "the popular girls' choir" seems a bit far fetched when you look at these young women! They were all Old Girls - or what we would now call Former Pupils - of Farnham Girls' Grammar School, but their conductor told us he couldn't face telling his mates at the Farnham Cricket Club that he was conducting the 'Old Girls Choir', so The Waverley Singers they became!

As to the reviewer's statement:

"There was a good audience at the Castle Theatre, Farnham, on Sunday evening for what has come to be an annual Christmas concert by the Waverley Singers under their conductor, John Cotterill." 

Given that this was the choir's first year of existence that must be seen as an error of anticipation! (Although, to be fair, there probably had been similar concerts given by the 'Old Girls' in previous years, before they formed themselves into the Waverley Singers.)

The concert was given in aid of the Castle Theatre Mortgage Fund.
