Mozart: Mass in C Minor
A singing workshop where we explored Mozart's great Mass in C minor. The choir would perform the Mass at Farnham Maltings with soloists and orchestra on Sunday 3rd April 2022, and this gave an opportunity for prospective new singers to come and meet the choir and take part in an enjoyable and instructive day!
10.30 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. (Registration 10.00 a.m.)
We used the Maunder (Oxford University Press) edition for the workshop and the concert.

A recipe for a great day: start with one risk assessment as long as your arm. Add an efficient team of organisers and a whole table of home-made cakes. Gradually admit a lot of keen singers, wrapped up in multiple layers of clothing (see risk assessment above: ventilation), an excellent pianist (Jakob Rothoff, regular accompanist for the Waverley Singers), and an inspirational conductor (Richard Pearce, Waverley Singers Music Director). Blend in 80 vocal scores of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor. Rehearse vigorously. Give singers regular access to tea and cake to lubricate vocal cords and keep energy levels up. Finish with a sing-through of this wonderful music, to banish Blue Monday, January, and Omicron from the collective consciousness.
This most enjoyable workshop day formed part of the Waverley Singers’ preparation for their concert performance at the Farnham Maltings on Sunday, April 3rd, which will also feature professional soloists Henna Mun, Hannah Crocker, Dafydd Jones, and Edward Jowle, with the Chameleon Arts Orchestra conducted by Richard Pearce. The choir is inviting temporary members to join for this concert, and also for the postponed performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor, in Aldershot on Saturday, 18 June.
